MAGNA Academic Excellence Program

In 2013, Springfield Central SHS launched our MAGNA Excellence program, specifically designed to support and foster the development of high achieving academic students. MAGNA is the Latin word for GREAT, which aligns closely with our school motto, Scale Great Heights, and this underpins the program.

MAGNA Academic classes will offer students with high-level skills a differentiated program, which extends on learning opportunities and focuses on the development of higher order thinking skills.

The purpose and pace of MAGNA Academic classes is designed to engage and motivate high achieving students to scale great heights and give opportunities to be extended and challenged in comparison to mainstream classes.

What does MAGNA Academic Excellence look like?

MAGNA Academic classes run across the four core subjects, English, Maths, Humanities and Science. MAGNA Acadmeic classes operate on a differentiated curriculum. While these classes are based on the National Curriculum, they also offer many opportunities for students to be challenged and extended academically.

To remain a part of MAGNA, students must

  • Maintain high academic standards in core and elective subjects.

  • Should readily engage in opportunities to continually extend themselves academically, such as participating in State and/or National competitions. Information about such competitions and programs will be made available to MAGNA students throughout the year.

Regular reviews are undertaken during the year to ensure students are meeting the required MAGNA standard. If they are unable to maintain the criteria students will be withdrawn from the MAGNA Academic Excellence program.

MAGNA Academic Excellence Criteria

  • Minimum B level of achievement in English, Maths, Science & Humanities
